Summary:In a microwave process to modify the properties of a fast-moving artificial fusion-melt thread, a thread consisting of a bundle of fibres is simultaneously processed by exposure to a high frequency microwave field in the vicinity of pref. 2450 MHz. The treatment may be effected by a series of exposures to different fields. The treatment consists of heating and stretching followed by the creation and fixing of ripples by compression. The thread (7) consists of a bundle of filaments (8) which are man-made fusion-melt high polymers, and which following cooling are treated with an aqueous emulsion. The thread is released to the microwave treatment zone from a ring oiler. Also claimed is a commensurate microwave treatment assembly.
