The present invention relates to a method for determining an optimum stopping position for a vehicle (1), in which the vehicle (1) has at least one environment sensor for sensing the environment, and on the basis of the sensed environment an environment analysis and/or environment interpretation is carried out to determine the traffic situation, wherein the optimum stopping position in front of a sensed obstacle (13) is determined if the vehicle (1) is supposed to stop in front of the obstacle (13) because of the traffic situation, and a grid map (16) comprising a plurality of grid cells is created to determine the optimum stopping position, wherein a grid cell corresponds to a determined stopping position and a quality level of said stopping position, and the optimum stopping position is selected from the stopping positions on the grid map (16) on the basis of the quality level of the respective stopping positions. |
