Summary:The method involves determining angle (24) of a mechanically actuated throttle valve (20) of an internal combustion engine (2). A setpoint torque (38) to be dispensed to the throttle valve of the internal combustion engine, by comparing the angle of the throttle valve with the mass flow of the charging current of a cylinder (8) in a steady state equilibrium of the internal combustion engine. The mass flow of the charging current of the cylinder is dependent on the angle of the throttle valve. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) an electronic control unit; (2) a computer program for determining a setpoint torque dispensed to a mechanically actuated throttle valve of an internal combustion engine; and (3) an electronic storage medium storing program for determining a setpoint torque dispensed to a mechanically actuated throttle valve of an internal combustion engine.
