A blow through airflow is exothermically reacted with fuel in the exhaust. An independent claim is also included for an engine system. Es werden Verfahren und Systeme zum Erwärmen eines Katalysators während Bedingungen eines Brennkraftmaschinen-Kaltstarts geschaffen. Eine beispielhafte Ausführungsform verwendet eine positive Ventilüberlappung, um einen aufgeladenen Durchblasluftstrom durch die Zylinder einer Brennkraftmaschine zu leiten. Kraftstoff wird mit dem Durchblasluftstrom während der Ventilüberlappung eingespritzt und außerdem außerhalb der Ventilüberlappung in Brennkraftmaschinenzylinder eingespritzt. Der Katalysator wird als Ergebnis einer exothermen Reaktion des Durchblasluftstroms mit den Verbrennungsprodukten und dem eingespritzten Kraftstoff in dem Abgaskrümmer erwärmt.
