The printing element has a transport unit (8) for print material (7), and printing unit (2) having print heads exhibiting pressure latches (1a-1f). A parking unit (13) for locking caps (3a-3f), is provided with the cap trays (4.1,4.2) and located in position adjacent to the transport unit. The locking caps are coupled to corresponding pressure latches. The printing unit is laid over the print material at operating position and laid besides the transport unit at parking position. The management units (6) are arranged with the housing (9) of the printing unit. An independent claim is included for method for positioning of print heads exhibiting pressure latches. Bei dem Druckwerk sind Druckköpfe aufweisende Druckriegel (1) und zur Abdeckung der Druckköpfe der Druckriegel vorgesehene Riegelschutzkappen (3) angeordnet. Die Druckriegel (1) sind unabhängig voneinander zwischen einer Druckposition, in der ein Bedruckstoff (7) bedruckt werden kann, und einer Transportposition oberhalb der Druckposition bewegbar. Die nicht zum Druck eingesetzten Druckriegel (1) liegen in Transportposition und können durch ihre zugeordneten Riegelschutzkappen (3) abgedeckt werden, während die zum Druck eingesetzten Druckriegel (1) in Druckposition sind, wobei die zugeordneten Riegelschutzkappen (3) außerhalb des Bedruckstoffs (7) angeordnet werden.
