The method comprises supplying a filler material as flat band or flat powder beam, aligning the laser beam with respect to its width on a width of the supplied filler material, monitoring an actual process temperature over the total width of the laser beam and if necessary adjusting a desired process temperature. A power distribution of the laser beam is adjusted over its width dependent upon the desired process temperature to a desired value. A feed speed and/or a quantity of the filler materials are adjusted over its width in dependent upon the desired process temperature to desired value.
