The metal bar exists an ingot mold (2) towards bottom and transverses the defined arc length between the under side of the ingot mold and a point (4) at which it is diverted in horizontal. The metal bar is guided over 50-75% of the arc length in the section. The procedure for continuous casting of a metal bar (1) for the production of slab, thin slab, billets, block and preprofile -product, comprises linearly guiding the metal bar along a bar guide (3) over a section of arc length or over the length of bar guide segments in the section. The metal bar exists an ingot mold (2) towards bottom and transverses the defined arc length between the under side of the ingot mold and a point (4) at which it is diverted in horizontal. The metal bar is guided over 50-75% of the arc length in the section and includes in the area of its linear guide to vertical of an angle of 30-60[deg] . The bar is guided between a flexible element (5) arranged directly below the ingot mold, and a guide element (6) arranged directly above the redirection in the horizontal. The bar is guided and cooled so that it completely hardens first before or after leaving the section of the linear guide. An independent claim is included for a device for continuous casting of a metal bar. Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Stranggießen eines Metallstranges (1), bei dem der gegossene Strang (1) eine Kokille (2) nach unten verlässt, entlang einer Strangführung (3) geführt und in die Horizontale (H) umgelenkt wird, wobei der Strang (1) zumindest zwischen der Unterseite der Kokille (2) und dem Punkt (4), an dem er in die Horizontale (H) umgelenkt ist, eine definierte Bogenlänge (s) zurücklegt. Um die benötigte Anlagenbauhöhe zu reduzieren, sieht die Erfindung vor, dass der Strang (1) zumindest über einen Abschnitt (sL) der Bogenlänge (s) linear geführt wird. Des Weiteren betrifft die Erfindung eine Vorrichtung zum Stranggießen.
