Summary:A cathode has an incandescent emitter (1), which is made from a material, which emits electrons thermally. An emission layer (3) having a thickness of 0.05-20mu m is applied partially or completely on the incandescent emitter, where the emission layer is made up of a material having a lower electron work function than the material of the incandescent emitter. A diffusion barrier layer is also arranged between the incandescent emitter and the emission layer. Die Erfindung betrifft eine Kathode mit einem Glühemitter (1) aus einem Material, das Elektronen thermisch emittiert, wobei auf dem Glühemitter (1) zumindest teilweise eine Emissionsschicht (3) aus einem Material aufgebracht ist, das eine niedrigere Elektronenaustrittsarbeit (Phi) aufweist als das Material des Glühemitters (1). Eine derartige Kathode besitzt eine hohe Elektronenemission und eine hohe Lebensdauer.
