Summary: | An injection nozzle for tools handling polymers incorporates an embedded electric heating element (2) that can be controlled separately and operates at high temperature, e.g. 800 [deg]C, to provide brief infra-red heating. The transparent nozzle body (1) is anisotropic and has a higher conductivity at right angles to the nozzle bore. The outer surface has a reflective coating (3). The nozzle bore can be sub-divided. The nozzle bore (di) can be up to 15 mm and the proportions of outer diameter (Da), height (H) and step diameter (Di) are 1.2 = Di/di = 3, 1.0 = Da/Di = 2, and 0.3 = H/Di = 2. Heating can be intermittent or pulsed to coincide with injection.
