The fuel cell system (1) includes a fuel cell (2), a fuel tank (3), a consumer unit (4) and a consumption optimizing unit (5) which monitors the fill level (7) of the fuel tank. The consumption optimizing unit monitors a parameter selected from a group consisting of an energy demand, an energy supply and both with respect to the consumer unit based on the fill level of the fuel tank. Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Brennstoffzellen-System, umfassend eine Brennstoffzelle, einen Brennstoffspeicher und eine Verbrauchereinheit. Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es, ein solches Brennstoffzellen-System in seinem Betrieb zu verbessern. Dazu ist dieses erfindungsgemäß mit einer Verbrauchs-Optimierungs-Einheit ausgestattet, welche in Abhängigkeit des Füllstands des Brennstoffspeichers einen oder mehrere Verbraucher der Verbrauchereinheit in der Energieversorgung einschränkt oder gegebenenfalls auch unterbricht, um damit möglichst lange die Aufrechterhaltung zumindest der Grundfunktion des Brennstoffzellen-Systems zu gewährleisten. Hierbei kann es sich sowohl um ein mobiles als auch um ein stationäres Brennstoffzellen-System handeln.
