Summary:A localizer with three to fifteen, ideally between five and seven transversal layers of images of the area in question is created and examined for being used as a reference. A tru-fi sequence is used in the process showing the vessels as bright areas in contrast to the surroundings. In a next step the image is divided into separate areas and the segments containing the carotid arteries are extracted. An in-plane layer is connected to a through-plane layer. Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Position und/oder Orientierung der Bildebene einer In-Plane- oder Through-Plane-Schichtbildaufnahme eines Blutgefäßes, insbesondere der Carotiden, wobei ein Localizer mit transversal liegenden Schichtbildern aufgenommen wird und die das Blutgefäß, insbesondere die Carotiden, zeigenden Bildbereiche anhand der Schichtbilder ermittelt und anhand der ermittelten Bildbereiche die räumliche Lage des Blutgefäßes, insbesondere der Carotiden, bestimmt und anhand der Lageinformationen die Position und/oder Orientierung der Bildebene bestimmt wird.
