Summary:5H-Dibenz[b,f]azepine of the formula is prepared by dehydrogenation of 10,11-di(hydro)-5H-dibenz[b,f]azepine of the formula in the presence of 1 or more noble metal catalysts and hydrogen acceptors and, if desired, solvents, the reaction being carried out in the melt or in 1 or more high-boiling polar protic solvents or a mixture of 1 or more high-boiling polar protic solvents and 1 or more apolar solvents having a higher or higher boiling point than the former, at temperatures of not more than 300 DEG C and, if the hydrogen acceptor or hydrogen acceptors is or are used, in amounts of 0.35 to 2 mol per mol of 10,11-di(hydro)-5H-dibenz[b,f]-azepine of the formula II.
