Summary:The aim of the invention is to treat the waste water or the waste water sludges in such a manner that on the one hand a protein-rich, low-ash biomass is produced and, on the other hand, a waste water is produced substantially free of pathogenic microbes and invasive parasitic stages and which has a low odour. This is achieved by first mechanically separating off the solids from the waste water or from the waste water sludges. The fugate produced in this is aerated in three stages. In the first stage of the process the bacterial growth is activated by a moderate oxygen input, in the second stage, under the same aeration conditions, the liquid phase produced from the destruction of the foam is withdrawn and high value biomass is recovered therefrom by thickening and drying. In the third stage, as a result of an intensive oxygen input, a mineralisation of the organic constituents is carried out in the temperature range of thermophilic microorganisms. The invention is applicable in particular in agriculture for treatment of liquid manure.
