Summary:This 0.1 to 2.5 mm thick electrode material with a porosity of 22 to 55% on the carrying metal collector consists of an active electro-chemical component, usually powdered cadmium oxide with an admixture of up to 25% by weight of powder cadmium, which is embedded in a plastic network of polymeric particles with the size of 0.02 to 1.00 micrometers. In addition to this, the electrode material may contain 0.1 to 5% by weight of nickel hydroxide, 0.5 to 10% by weight of powdered nickel, and 0.5 to 5.0% by weight of polyvinyl alcohol. The plastics may be vinyl and/or diene and/or olefinic polymer and/or copolymer and the weight ratio of the active electro-chemical component and the plastic material in the electrode substance is 95:5 to 99:1. The electrode is prepared so that 100 weight parts of the active electro-chemical component is mixed with 20 to 40 weight parts of a 5 to 25% colloidal water dispersion of the polymer with particles sized from 0.02 to 1.00 micro meters and the resulting homogenous paste-like substance is applied to both sides on the whole surface of the collector in a 0.1 to 2.5 mm thick layer by pasting, spraying or dipping the collector into the homogenous paste-like material, or by applied printing technology, and the prepared electrode is dried at a max. temperature of 100 degrees C and is possibly pressed.
