Summary:In the present invention there is disclosed a process for preparing l-{[2-(cyclopropylcarbonyl)phenyl]sulfamoyl}-3-(4,6-dialkoxy-2-pyrimidinyl)urea of the general formula I, in which Y represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a haloalkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R represents an alkyl group containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms. The invented process is characterized by reacting 2-amino-4,6-dihalopyrimidine of the general formula II, wherein X and Xi1 represent independently on each other a chlorine, bromine or iodine atom with chlorosulfonyl isocyanate in the presence of a first solvent under formation of and intermediate. The intermediate is then brought into reaction with 2-aminophenylcyclopropyl ketone of the general formula III, in which Y is as specified above and a base under formation of 1-{[2-(cyclopropylcarbonyl)phenyl]sulfamoyl}-3-(4,6-dihalogen-2-pyrimidinyl)urea of the general formula IV, wherein Y, X a Xi1 are as specified above. Subsequently the 1-{[2-(cyclopropylcarbonyl)phenyl]sulfamoyl}-3-(4,6-dihalogen-2-pyrimidinyl)urea of the general formula IV is brought into reaction with at least two molar equivalents of the alkali metal alkoxide of the general formula ROe-Me+ wherein M represents the alkali metal and R is as specified above in the presence of a second solvent under formation of the desired compound of the general formula I. In the present invention there are also claimed the intermediates of the general formula IV.
