Summary: | Sulphuric acid is added to a water suspension of ammonium diuranate or to the water-free concentrate. The pH is adjusted to 1 to 4.5. This action is accompanied by the selective dissolution of ammonium diuranate, while the main part of the ballast contaminants remains in the precipitate. The solution with reduced content of contaminants is separated, e.g. by filtration or centrifugation. From the resulting solution a suspension of pure ammonium diuranate is precipitated using gaseous ammonia or aqueous ammonia solution at pH 6.8 to 9.0. |
