Summary: | 1506699 Charging pressure gasifiers METALLGES AG 25 Oct 1976 [26 Feb 1976] 44142/76 Heading F4B A gasification reactor for gasifying coal under pressure is charged through a lock chamber to which carbon dioxide or nitrogen is fed as the pressurizing gas. Coal from a hopper 1 is fed to the lock chamber 3 through an upper valve 2, and the chamber 3 is pressurized to a greater pressure than that of the gasifier by carbon dioxide or nitrogen from a line 7. When the valve 4 is opened to allow coal to enter the gasifier, the pressure is maintained in the lock chamber through a by-pass line 7a. To reduce the pressure in the lock chamber 3 to refill it, the carbon dioxide or nitrogen are discharged direct to atmosphere. Carbon dioxide or nitrogen may be fed to the gasifier to maintain its pressure as the coal level falls, and the pressurizing gas may be heated by waste heat from the gasifier or purification processes. Carbon dioxide may be obtained from the purification processes, and nitrogen may be a by-product from the production of gasifying oxygen. |
