Summary:The utility model relates to an index inputting apparatus, comprising a sphere, a grating encoding rotary plate, an infrared transmitter, and infrared receiver, a control circuit and a function button. The number of holes which are arranged on the external circumference of the grating encoding rotary plate is approximately double than the number of holes on an existing grating encoding rotary plate. The width of each hole is smaller than the width of a shading part between two adjacent holes. A receiver window of the infrared receiver, which corresponds to one hole, is provided with four receiver points inside, and the receiver window only can correspond to one of the holes on the grating encoding rotary plate. Each lightproof part on the grating encoding rotary plate is approximately twice wider than each hole. The grating encoding rotary plate is provided with eighty holes and the width of each hole is about 0.2 mm. The Index inputting apparatus has a high degree of resolution.
