Summary:A needle guidance system is disclosed that includes a single patient device, a multi-patient device, and an RFID reader. The single-patient device may include a vascular access device ("VAD") having a needle and an RFID tag. The RFID tag may be incorporated into the VAD or the packaging of the VAD. The console may be configured to automatically initiate needle tracking for the clinician on the integrated display screen of the console upon receiving RFID tag data from the RFID tag and processing instructions of needle tracking software for needle tracking provided by the memory of the console using the processor of the console. The RFID reader may be configured to read RFID tag data from the RFID tag and write additional RFID tag data to the RFID tag. The RFID reader may be provided with the packaging of the VAD or the multi-patient device.
