A dishwasher includes: an inner container at least partially defining a processing chamber having an inlet; a sink fluidly coupled to the process chamber; at least one showerhead to eject liquid intothe processing chamber; a pump; a conduit fluidly coupling the water tank to the pump and fluidly coupling the pump to the at least one showerhead, thereby defining a recirculation loop through whichliquid injected into the process chamber is collected in the water tank and pumped back to the at least one showerhead; and a filter assembly disposed in the water tank and filtering the liquid in therecirculation loop, and including a filter having a filter wall through which the liquid passes and including a cleaning element in rolling contact with the filter wall. The dishwasher improves the function of the filter assembly by removing particulates to allow fluid to flow continuously through the filter, and provides more efficient fluid filtration by creating a higher water level in the filter assembly to flow fluid
