The device comprises a distance fixing device used for adjusting a shooting distance and a shooting angle of a root system of a plant, and an image acquisition device; the distance fixing device comprises a guide ruler with scales and a distance fixing rotary platform fixed to one end of the guide ruler with the scales; the distance fixing rotary platform comprises a movable turntable rotating around one end of the guide ruler with the scales; the movable turntable is provided with an object placement table; the plant of which the root system is required to be observed is arranged on the object placement table; the image acquisition device comprises a shooting platform capable of sliding axially relative to the guide ruler with the scales, a digital single lens reflex arranged on the shooting platform, and a distortionless camera lens arranged in front of the lens of the digital single lens reflex; the lens of the digital single lens reflex faces the plant along the guiding direction of the guide ruler with the scales. The device can accurately acquire high-definition images of the root system which has been taken out or high-definition images of a root system of a water-cultured seedling in a glass container to obtain the accurate three-dimensional root system architecture.
