Summary: | Disclosed is a high-quality liquid crystal display element which enables to prevent deterioration of a liquid crystal panel even when the liquid crystal panel used as a light bulb in a projector or the like is operated under high temperature, high humidity conditions. Also disclosed is a projection display using such a liquid crystal display element. The liquid crystal display element comprises a TFT array substrate (11) and a counter substrate (12) which are arranged opposite to each other at a certain distance and bonded together with a sealing material (15), and liquid crystal layer (16) interposed between the bonded substrates. The sealing material (15) contains a nonconductive filler having an average particle diameter of less than 0.5 mum, and a liquid crystal material used for the liquid crystal layer (16) has a refractive index anisotropy (Deltan) of not less than 0.16 at room temperature. A cell gap (d) which is the distance between the TFT array substrate (11) and the counter substrate (12) is not more than 3 mum. |
