A disposable wearing article (1) capable of preventing gathers from occurring on a fastening means by the action of elastic members (20), comprising the multiple lines of elastic members (20) provided between an inner surface sheet (4) and an outer surface sheet (5) and extending in a body peripheral direction in an extended state and the fastening means fitted to the wearing article so as to cross the elastic members (20). The base sheet (48) of the hook part (17) of a mechanical fastener as the fastening means is fitted to the outer surface sheet (5) in the state of crossing the elastic member (20). The outer surface sheet (5) is formed such that, in the lateral direction (X) of the wearing article (1), the portion (52) thereof joined with the base sheet (48) and the portions (53) and (54) thereof positioned at the peripheral edge of the base sheet (48) having width dimensions (m) and (n) from both side edge parts (50) of the base sheet (48) thereto are not joined to the inner elastic member (20) and the surface sheet (4) and joined to the elastic member (20) and the inner surface sheet (4) on the outside of the peripheral edge portions (53) and (54).
