SOLUTION: This water heater has a heat pump refrigerant circuit for connecting a compressor, a water refrigerant heat exchanger, a pressure reducer and an evaporator by a refrigerant pipe, a hot water supply circuit for connecting a water supply port, a bypass valve, a water supply check valve, the water refrigerant heat exchanger and a hot water outlet port for taking out heated hot water via a first flow regulating valve, a water supply circuit, and a hot water storage tank reheating circuit for connecting a hot water storage tank connected via a second flow regulating valve to a branch pipe branching off from the hot water supply circuit and a circulating pump for sending water from the hot water storage tank to the water refrigerant heat exchanger by a water pipe. Further, the heater has the direct hot water outlet function, the tank hot water outlet function and the simultaneous hot water outlet function, and switches the three functions by an operation control means. Thereby, it becomes possible to provide an instantaneous water heater type heat pump water heater superior in the installation performance, the work efficiency and the easiness-to-use by the heat pump water heater for connecting a heat source unit for heating the water and a hot water storage unit by the water pipe and low voltage control wiring.
