Summary:Dialkylphosphinic acid salts with a telomer content of only 0.01-6 wt%, in which the telomers comprise ethyl-butyl-, butyl-butyl-, ethyl- hexyl-, butyl-hexyl- and/or hexyl-hexyl-phosphinate salts. Dialkylphosphinic acid salts of formula (I). [Image] R 1>, R 2>1-6C alkyl; M : Mg, Ca, Al, Sb, Sn, Ge, Ti, Fe, Zr, Zn, Ce, Bi, Sr, Mn, Li, Na, K and/or a protonated nitrogen base; m : 1-4. In these salts, the telomer content is 0.01-6 wt% and the telomers comprise salts of ethyl-butyl-, butyl-butyl-, ethyl-hexyl-, butyl-hexyl- and/or hexyl- hexyl-phosphinic acid. Independent claims are also included for (1) fire retardant compositions containing (I) (2) fire retardant compositions (II) containing 50-99.9 wt% (I) and 0.1-50 wt% additives (3) flameproofed polymer molding materials (III) containing (I) or (II) (4) a method (M1) for the production of (III) by mixing (I) or (II) with polymer granules and optionally additives, homogenising in the melt at elevated temperature, and then extruding, cooling and granulating (5) flameproofed moldings (IV), film, yarn and fibres containing (I) or (II), preferably containing 1-50 (especially 5-30) wt% (I) or (II), 1-99 (especially 5-90) wt% polymer(s), 0-60 (especially 5-40) wt% additives and 0-60 (especially 5-40) wt% filler (6) a method (M2) for the production of (IV) from (III) by injection molding and pressing, foam injection molding, gas pressure injection molding, blow molding, film casting, calendering, laminating or coating at elevated temperature.
