Summary:A thin photocatalytic film for use in air flow passages, filtration sections, exterior sections, and sections exposed to light from a built-in illumination machanism in electric appliances employed mainly in a room. It has an enhanced catalytic activity by virtue of addition of various additives. This film can decompose organic matter upon exposure to even a weak light, including one generally obtained in a room, such as the one from a fluorescent lamp, an incandescent lamp, a mercury lamp, or sunlight through a windowpane, and can decompose stains such as nicotine of cigarettes or sebum of, e.g., hands, even when deposited thereon, to offer an antifouling effect. Similarly, in the presence of a very weak light, this film can decompose various substances causative of an offensive odor dispersed in air, such as organic amines and mercaptans, even when deposited thereon, into substances emitting no significant odor or odorless substances, thus offering an deodorant effect of reducing the odor in a room.
