The invention discloses a reaction type water-soluble polymer, which comprises a methanesulfonyl group-containing acrylate monomer as shown in a formula 2, and the reaction type water-soluble polymer is obtained by carrying out free radical polymerization on the methanesulfonyl group-containing acrylate monomer in water. The invention further discloses the adhesive and application. The reaction type water-soluble polymer prepared by the invention is excellent in hydrolytic stability and hardly degraded in a long-time storage process. And after the polymer aqueous solution of the reaction type water-soluble polymer is used as a composite adhesive component, the oxidation and yellowing phenomena cannot occur. The prepared high-performance composite adhesive is used for plastic/plastic composite packaging, can be used as a single component, can be stored and used for a long time, and does not have a pre-crosslinking phenomenon; after compounding, an excellent apparent effect and excellent transparency are achiev
