A computer-implemented method is provided for facilitating acquisition of ultrasound imaging data over a long period of time in a manner that improves consistency of captured image views. A first set of ultrasound imaging data is acquired and stored in a data repository, the first set of ultrasound imaging data including one or more images representing one or more views of a patient's anatomy. This image data is then used as reference data for subsequent image acquisition, where the subsequent image data is compared to the reference image data in real time to obtain a measure of the degree of correspondence between the depicted views. This can be used to direct the acquisition of new image data such that it coincides with previous image data.
