Summary:The present invention relates to novel esterases, and more particularly to esterase variants having improved activity and/or improved thermal stability compared to the parent esterase of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2 or SEQ ID NO: 3 under acidic conditions, and their use for degrading polyester-containing materials, such as plastic products. The esterase of the present invention is particularly suitable for degrading polyethylene terephthalate and polyethylene terephthalate-containing materials under acidic conditions.
