Summary: | There is provided a method of making a copolyester, the method comprising polymerizing, in the presence of a germanium catalyst, 1) at least one terephthalate monomer; 2) from about 85 to about 96 mol% ethylene glycol; and 3) from about 4 to about 15 mol% of a combination of diethylene glycol (DEG) and at least one diol residue selected from the group consisting of 1, 4-cyclohexanedimethanol residue (CHDM), propylene glycol residue (MPG), and 2, 2, 4, 4-tetramethyl-1, 3-cyclobutanediol residue (TMCD); wherein the germanium catalyst is present in the copolyester at a concentration of about 5 to about 500 ppm, based on elemental germanium; wherein the diacid is based on such that 100 mol% diacid equivalents are substantially equal to the total 100 mol% diol equivalents.
