Summary: | A steerable arm of a surgical instrument for endoscopic surgery is tensible from a first position and a second position. The steerable arm is structurally biased to a first position, but limited to not fully meet the bias, to respond quickly upon actuation of the steerable arm towards a second position under the action of a force. The first position and the second position are determined by the length of the cable released from the spool. A holding force that does not fully meet the bias is provided by limiting the length of the cable that can be dispensed from the spool.
