Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications. In some aspects, a UE included in a first category of user equipment (UE) may receive a configuration to configure a paging advance indication (PEI) in a first initial downlink bandwidth portion associated with the first category of UE, and may monitor the PEI in the first initial downlink bandwidth portion based at least in part on the configuration. In some aspects, the UE may receive a configuration to configure the PEI in a second initial downlink bandwidth portion associated with the UE of the second category, and may monitor the PEI in the second initial downlink bandwidth portion based at least in part on the configuration.
