The invention provides a window type fan. The window type fan comprises a fan shell and a cavity assembly. The fan housing includes a front panel having an air outlet and a rear panel having an air inlet and defines a central chamber. The chamber assembly is located within a central chamber of the fan housing and includes a cylindrical fan rotatably mounted within the chamber and driven by a fan motor. The air duct assembly is rotatably mounted within a chamber having an air duct panel movable from an open position to a closed position, blocking airflow through the window fan when in the closed position, and allowing airflow through the window fan when in the open position.
