A method for controlling a work machine includes: acquiring a captured image of a monitored area around the work machine; an overhead image (Im100) based on the captured image is displayed in the first display area (R11); and displaying at least a part of the specific image (Im200) in the second display region (R12). The first display region (R11) is a region having a shape in which, in a display screen (Dp1) displayed by the display device, a portion in the circumferential direction viewed from a local reference position (P1) corresponding to the working machine in plan view is cut out as a cutout region (R13).
