Summary: | The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of ultra pure (UP) grade bis (chlorosulfonyl) imide (HCSI) having a purity of at least 99.0 mol.% with respect to the total number of moles of HCS. Furthermore, the invention relates to a UP-grade HSCI obtainable from this process, and to the use of this UP-grade HSCI for the preparation of lithium bis (fluorosulfonyl) imide (LiFSI). The invention also relates to a method for producing LiFSI, comprising the preparation of UP grade HSCI according to the method. The present invention relates to a composition comprising LiFSI having a purity of at least 99.99 mol.% with respect to the total number of moles of LiFSI in the composition, and to the use of a composition comprising the LiFSI obtainable from the present process in a lithium ion secondary battery.
