Summary: | An internal combustion engine system is described herein. The system uses a switching rail in combination with a first fuel rail to operate an internal combustion engine. The first fuel rail receives a first fuel for combustion within one or more combustion cylinders of an internal combustion engine. The switching rail is configured to receive a first fuel or a second fuel. A controller is used to operate the switching valve that routes or directs the second fuel or the first fuel from its respective fuel tank depending on a position of the switching valve. The controller may use the first fuel as an alternative fuel source provided through the switching rail under switching conditions, such as start-up, shutdown, or when the second fuel is not available.
