The invention discloses an elevator construction device. Comprising a hoistway (1), a protective deck (2, 2 ') arranged within the hoistway for protecting a portion of the hoistway below it from falling objects wherein the protective deck comprises: a frame (4, 4') mounted on a stationary structure of the hoistway, a cover (3) cooperating with the frame and extending across the hoistway, wherein the cover is adapted to protect the hoistway from falling objects and/or water falling into the hoistway below it. The frame (4, 4 ') is configured to individually increase and/or decrease in size in at least one direction (W, L) relative to a corresponding adjacent stationary structure (1a-1d) of the hoistway (1), such as a wall of the hoistway (1), without detaching the frame.
