Summary:The invention relates to road travel detection for state of charge management in a motor vehicle. A method for adjusting a state of charge (SOC) limit on a motor vehicle having a propulsion battery pack includes receiving, via a host computer, a pre-drive information set and identifying, from the pre-drive information set, a probability that the motor vehicle is about to begin a road travel. The road travel is a driving event in which the motor vehicle will travel outside a predetermined area.
