Summary:The invention relates to a battery pack with exhaust conduits and airflow channels for thermal runaway protection. The battery pack includes an elongate exhaust conduit defining an airflow channel. The discharge conduit includes a longitudinal central axis and a tip having a battery pack vent. The battery pack also includes a sheet disposed within the airflow channel, and a plurality of battery cells disposed adjacent to the discharge conduit. Each respective battery cell includes a housing defining a battery cell cavity. The housing defines a cell ventilation opening. An anode and a cathode are disposed within the cell cavity, and a vent cover covers the cell vent opening. The vent cover opens at a predetermined pressure to release hot gas from the battery cell cavity into the gas flow channel.
