Summary:The invention discloses a universal serial bus (USB) backboard. The high-speed extensible backboard realizes communication between the central processing unit CPU module and the field input/output I/O module and/or the communication module. The backplane includes a root hub associated with the CPU module. The backplane also includes a plurality of universal serial bus (USB) hubs sequentially coupled to each other and arranged according to a layered architecture. Each of the USB hubs has an upstream port and a plurality of downstream ports. The top USB hub has an upstream port coupled with the host port of the root hub. The one or more lower USB hubs each have an upstream port coupled with a selected downstream port of one of the USB hubs in just a previous layer of the layered architecture.
