Summary:The invention relates to a monitoring device for an optical system. The optical detection unit includes a retroreflective element providing a reflective surface configured to retroreflect a first portion of the measurement light as reflected measurement light to provide a determination of a position of the optical detection unit, and a penetrating surface configured to transmit a second portion of the measurement light as transmitted measurement light to provide a determination of a position of the optical detection unit. The optical detection unit further comprises a sensor arrangement having a sensor configured and arranged behind the retroreflective element such that the transmitted measurement light can be detected by the sensor.
