Summary: | The invention belongs to the technical field of ceramics, and discloses a high-toughness ZrN ceramic as well as a preparation method and application thereof. The method comprises the following steps: oxidizing ZrN powder in air at 250-400 DEG C to form a thin ZrO2 layer on the ZrN surface, and calcining nano Al2O3 powder at 1100-1300 DEG C to obtain dendritic Al2O3 powder; then, the oxidized ZrN powder is mechanically mixed with the dendritic Al2O3 powder, and mixed powder is obtained; and pre-pressing and molding the mixed powder, heating to 1600-1800 DEG C in atmosphere or vacuum, pressurizing to 20-60 MPa, and carrying out hot pressed sintering or spark plasma sintering to obtain the ZrN ceramic. The ZrN ceramic has the density of 97% or above, the toughness of 7-9.3 MPa.m < 1/2 > and the heat conductivity of 8.6-11 W. (m <-1 >. K <-1 >), and can be applied to the field of nuclear energy.
