Summary: | A feature gatherer based on a host vehicle is disclosed. In one embodiment, a feature collector includes a memory and a processor configured to receive a plurality of images captured by a camera on a host vehicle, the plurality of images representing an environment of the host vehicle; analyzing at least one image of the plurality of images to identify a representation of a lane marking; selecting at least one sample region of the representation of the lane markings, where the at least one sample region is associated with an image location of at least a portion of the representation of the lane markings; determining a location identifier of the at least one sample area; determining a surface quality indicator associated with the at least one sample region; and causing transmission of the location identifier and the surface quality indicator to an entity located remotely relative to the host vehicle.
