The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for detecting hydrogen leaks in a system that includes a hydrogen storage system storing hydrogen, a temperature sensor, a pressure sensor, a hydrogen storage system controller, and a notification system. The hydrogen storage system controller is configured to measure thermodynamic characteristics of the hydrogen in the hydrogen storage system and determine whether a hydrogen leak has occurred in the fuel cell system using these thermodynamic characteristics of the hydrogen.
