The embodiment of the invention provides a degradable magnesium alloy and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the steps that alloy raw materials are prepared in proportion; alloy raw materials are smelted, and alloy liquid is prepared; the alloy liquid is poured into a mold, and a cast ingot is prepared; treating the cast ingot to prepare an intermediate; and the intermediate is processed, and the degradable magnesium alloy is prepared. Wherein the alloy raw materials comprise a zinc element, a gadolinium element, a zirconium element, a strontium element and a magnesium element. The degradable magnesium alloy prepared by the method has high strength and corrosion resistance. Besides, the magnesium alloy is doped with the strontium element, the strontium element can play a role in refining grains in the magnesium alloy, and the generated fine and dispersed second phase Mg17Sr2 can improve the mechanical property of the alloy; the zirconium element and the zirconium compound doped in
