Summary: | A magneto-optical imaging apparatus suitable for use with an imaging device, such as a smartphone, tablet or borescope, for visual detection of defects in a surface or subsurface of a component using magneto-optical effects. The magneto-optical imaging apparatus includes a housing having an interface for connection with an imaging device such that a camera and a light source of the imaging device can achieve magneto-optical visualization. The housing includes an optical element including one or more filters, a polarizer, a magneto-optical or garnet film, and an analyzer. The housing also includes a flexible coil or electrical terminal for inducing a magnetic field in the component. The magneto-optical imaging device may include one or more translucent or transparent bodies of conformable material to accommodate the magneto-optical film and the flexible coil to a non-planar surface of the component.
