A method includes forming an optical engine including a photonic die. The photonic die includes a grating coupler. The method further includes forming an optical fiber unit including an optical fiber platform having a slot; and an optical fiber attached to the optical fiber platform. The optical fiber extends into the slot. The optical fiber unit further comprises a reflector. The fiber unit is attached to the optical engine, and the reflector is configured to deflect the light beam such that the light beam emitted by a first one of the fiber and the grating coupler is received by a second one of the fiber and the grating coupler.
