Summary:A continuous process for carbonylation of epoxides and/or lactones with carbon monoxide with improved catalyst efficiency and reactor productivity includes reacting epoxy resins and/or lactones in a solvent with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst under water at a temperature of at least 80 DEG C and an amount of up to about 150 ppm of the effluent from the reactor. The amount of water in any component used in the process of the invention is desirably substantially lower than the above water concentration in the effluent from the reactor. Likewise, in the process of the invention, the amount of polyether by-products is substantially absent.
