Summary:Compounds for activating constant natural killer T cells (iNKT) are provided. Compounds according to certain embodiments activate iNKT cells and induce an increase in the production of one or more cytokines such as IFN [gamma], IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, and TNF [alpha]. In some embodiments, activated iNKT cells are used to selectively reduce the presence of inflammatory senescence cells or eliminate inflammatory senescence cells, such as senescence cells with an inflammatory secretory group (SASP). Also described are methods of activating iNKT cells by contacting the iNKT cells with an amount of the compound and selectively reducing the presence of senescent cells or eliminating senescent cells with the activated iNKT cells.
