The invention relates to a battery module electrical position automatic identification system based on serial communication. The system comprises a power battery management system. The power battery management system comprises a master control BCU and a slave control BMU. The invention also relates to an automatic identification method for the electrical position of the battery module based on serial communication. The method comprises the following steps: starting a low-voltage power-on process; a module electrical position automatic identification process; and an electrical position automatic identification fault judgment process. Module numbers do not need to be set in advance, and the positions of the modules are automatically positioned; the module numbering cost is reduced, and the system assembling efficiency is improved; when the battery packs or the battery modules of multiple models are assembled, the situation that the battery management system cannot identify the battery packs or the battery modul
